Apply to speak – 2024

Applications to speak at TEDx St Albans 2024 have now closed

We believe that everyone has a story to tell and that ideas can come from anyone and anywhere. Our theme for 2024 is 'Curiosity'. Scroll down to apply!
Our 2024 theme is “Curiosity” – watch this short video to learn more.

We will prioritise applications from Hertfordshire, as we aim for TEDx St Albans to be a community based event.
Deadline for applications is midnight on Sunday 17th March and TEDx St Albans takes place on Wednesday October 16th
Please consider the points below BEFORE applying
Does my talk adhere to the TEDx guidelines?
Keep in mind TED’s guidelines on what is an idea worth spreading and what is not.
– No selling from the stage (no self-promotion, no products/services pitches)
– No political agendas
– No religious proselytizing (including new age beliefs)
– Only good science
Have I got the time / commitment to do this?
Our speakers will need to agree to a programme of mandatory script development and in person rehearsal sessions that will require considerable time commitment
Your talk proposal
When submitting a proposal, please remember that TEDx events (just like TED) are all about ‘ideas worth spreading’. It is all about the ideas. So we need to know,
– Is the idea new?
– Is it interesting (to a broad audience)?
– Is it factual and realistic (can your call to action be executed)?
What is your “Idea Worth Spreading”?
Please provide a title and short description. No more than 500 words. Talks need to have focus, a point of view and deliver a take-away that leaves your audience with something to ponder. Try and say too much and you could end up saying nothing.  TEDx St Albans talks will be around 12 minutes
What makes you uniquely placed to deliver this talk?
This question is very important – the authenticity of your talk hinges on you being the best or only person to deliver this talk.
There is no magic formula. Get a friend to read your application and give their opinion before you send it. If it seems too obvious or too similar to a lot of other TEDx talks, this will probably be the feedback from our curators. If it’s a unique, authentic and personal story, it will most likely stand out. Give it your best shot and give it some personality.

Please use YouTube or Vimeo
A 2-3 minute piece to camera introduction that summarizes your talk and the takeaway message and tells us why you want to do this talk.
It doesn’t have to be the highest quality, a quick phone video is fine. A video of another speaking engagement would also be great but is not necessary if you’re new to public speaking.
If the video is password protected, please enter this below the video link.
Link to website / social media
Link to a website and social media (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, blogs etc) that tell us more about who you are.
Good luck!
